All Hail Nissan Taxi
May 4, 2011By Daisy Patino

New Yorkers say "goodbye" to the classic Crown Victoria and say "hello" to the new Nissan NV200 as their official taxi model.

This new taxi comes with the traditional yellow paint that makes New York City taxis classic but with a 21st century spin to it. This cab it is not only designed to impress tourists with a transparent roof to take in a better view of the New York City skyline, but it also features phone and iPod charger.

Technology and comfort for their customers will cost NYC taxi drivers $29,000. Anything to be able to control your own air conditioner, right?

Nissan won the title of the "official taxi supplier" after over 4 years of vying against Ford and Karsan in the Taxi of Tomorrow Competition.

According to Time magazine, the grand prize was a 10-year contract to supply the vehicles to New York City. It is worth a whopping $1 billion!

But, don't throw out your pocket fan just yet. This model won't start circulating until 2013.
