The gold-mounted dentures of British wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill's were sold for $US23,788 on July 29.
The false teeth that were specifically designed to cover Churchill's lisp were put up for sale by the son of the technician who was commissioned to make them.
The buyer, a collector of Churchill memorabilia from Gloucestershire, England, also owns the famous microphone from which Churchill announced the end of the war in Europe in 1954.
The auctioneer said that the atmosphere was electric and that the false teeth had only been expected to reach $US7,825.00.
